Summer Nights With Christmas On My Mind

Hello Friends!

I hope you’ve had a chance to look through the August-December, 2020 Mini Catalog and make your shopping list!  The catalog is NOW LIVE and you can start ordering and redeeming your Bonus Days Coupons NOW!!!

I’m so excited that as a demonstrator, I can now pre-order the all-new Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine!!!  And, I already did actually!!!  My poor old Big Shot is about worn out at this point and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the availability of the new machine!   I can’t wait until it arrives!  It will be available for you to order on September 4, so by then, I’ll have mine all broken in and can offer hints and tips for it’s best use!!!  I’m so excited about the fold-up feature and smaller footprint!  YAY!!!

Also, if you haven’t been to my online Stampin’ Up! store yet today, it’s gone through a major facelift with new features.  The first time you visit, you’ll have to enter your password or create a new one if you’ve forgotten it!  Otherwise, it will have a new look and feel to hopefully make your shopping experience and finding products easier!  Stampin’ Up is looking for feedback on what you, our customers, like and don’t like about the new online store, so don’t hesitate to share your opinion!

I’m slowly getting into the holiday season crafting mode.  I have to admit that I’m one of those shoppers who walks into a store in September and sees Christmas items and expresses with a groan to whomever I’m with, “Christmas stuff already?!  It’s only September!”  However, I can see the logic in it, as I’m also one of those who says every year, “I’m going to have my Christmas shopping done by the end of August, and all my cards made, so I can just sit back and enjoy the holidays!”  Hasn’t happened yet, but who knows?  I still have a few weeks to go this year…  And, well… it could happen!

But today I’m setting all that aside to share with you my July Paper Pumpkin Alternatives!  I finally got around to digging into that little orange box and oh my!  I’ve had a great time nestled away in my craft room playing with this kit!  I have 7 cards to share with you today, and a couple more that are still in my head just waiting for another round of crafting time!  Summer Nights is the theme of this kit, and I did order the add-on offered for this kit also.  As mentioned, I’ve made 7 cards so far and still have a TON of “stuff” left for many more cards!

I generally make my first cards right out of the box just like the directions instruct, one of each design, and then throw caution to the wind and design my own creations with the kit supplies.  This month, however, I skipped right over the “intended” cards and went straight to my own creations!  So much inspiration inside this month’s kit!

So, here we go… LET’S GET INKY!!!

Card #1

For this card, I created a hill at the bottom of the card “in the background” using a Post-It note to create a mask.  Just tear a “hill” in the Post-It note and then use the part of the Post-It from which it was torn (the original rectangle note) as a mask.  Use a sponge to apply ink to the open part, creating your hill.  I then hand-drew some small trees using a black Stampin’ Write Marker.

Stamp the fireworks randomly in the sky in Versamark ink, and then use white embossing powder and a heat tool to set.

Next, I used the Majestic Mountain Dies to die-cut three trees and then placed them at varying heights in a group, trimming off the overhang at the bottom.

The sentiment tag was made using the Layering Circles Dies.  I stamped the sentiment from the Paper Pumpkin kit in the included Blackberry Bliss ink and then cropped the bottom of the circle off.  I stamped the small “burst” in Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  Finally, I sponged some Blackberry Bliss ink around the edges of the “tag”.

Add a few of the stars, included in the kit, to the night sky and BOOM!  Done!

Card #2

I used one of the die-cut bags for this card, cutting the front, die-cut portion, from the bag.  I then used the fireworks stamp and randomly stamped it in Mango Melody, Blackberry Bliss, Coastal Cabana and Magenta Madness.  I put a piece of the Rainbow Glimmer Paper behind the die-cut portion and adhered to a piece of Blackberry Bliss CS.  I then used one of the 3D stars from the PP kit in the center of the “big fireworks”, and the CS gold stars from the PP kit in the center of the other fireworks.  I sponged a little bit of the same color ink around the borders of the CS stars so that the white edge of them wasn’t so stark against the fireworks.

The sentiment is from the stamp set “Friend Like You” and stamped onto Whisper White CS in Blackberry Bliss ink.  I then used the Banners Pick-A-Punch to create the tag which is 3/4″ wide, and the Blackberry Bliss was then cut at 1″ wide to create a mat for the sentiment.

This was then all adhered to one of the add-on cards.

Card #3

I pulled out the new “Gnome For the Holidays” stamp set for this card.  I thought the streak of clouds across the front looked like the tail of a shooting star, so used the Stitched Stars Dies for the star and the “swirled tail”.  I fussy cut the cute little gnome, which was colored with Stampin’ Blends – Misty Moonlight Combo, Dark Real Red, Gray Granite Combo, Ivory, and the color lifter to highlight his hat down the center.  The rest of the elements are all from the PP kit!  This was all adhered to a Night of Navy card base.

Card #4

Not one usually big for Halloween, I couldn’t resist the new Magic In This Night Suite!  Mostly because of the Magic In This Night DSP… you know I love pretty PAPER!!!  However, the sentiment “Open if you DARE” spoke to me also, as I’m not one to shy away from too many dares!  But, truth be known, this card was mostly inspired by the recent find of a Black Widow Spider lurking under the hose-reel on the side of our house.  I bought a new hose-reel, as the old one had broken, and Dean was replacing it for me.  YUK!  Who knew such nastiness was hiding underneath!

This little lady and her egg sacks were quickly swept from the side of the house and “gently” (NOT!) disposed of!

The purple-black of the night sky on these card fronts just leant itself to a Halloween card, and what better to go in the jar than spiders?

I stamped the spiders on the REVERSE side of the jar in STAZ-On black ink.  The branch stamp is from “Birds & Branches” stamp set and stamped in STAZ-On Saddle Brown ink, again, on the reverse (back) side of the jar.  The little web she’s hanging from was hand-drawn with a Black Stampin’ Write Marker.

The black border at the top was cut with a die from the Halloween Magic Dies, as was the spider which was stamped in Memento Black ink on Gray Granite CS.

The sentiment was stamped in Memento Black on Pumpkin Pie CS and cropped out with the Layering Squares Dies.  The little “burst” stamp is part of the PP kit.

The PP kit postcard was adhered to a Pumpkin Pie CS mat and that was adhered to a Basic Black card base.

Card #5

I think this might be my favorite card from the bunch.  I love the tree silhouette which is part of the Sweet Silhouette Dies.  I chose to use an Early Espresso card base, and cropped the tree out of Early Espresso also.  This was adhered to the postcard from the PP kit, and then the lanterns (also from the kit) were randomly placed on the tree.  The bows were tied with the (included in the kit) Night of Navy twine and placed with glue dots.  The sentiment was stamped in Early Espresso and the tag popped up with dimensionals.

Card #6

I elected to cut the lid off of this jar and let the fireflies escape!  Again, the fireflies were stamped on the reverse side of the jar, this time in Blackberry Bliss ink.  Ink doesn’t dry very well on vellum, so after letting it dry as long as I could stand, I turned the jar over onto a piece of scratch paper and without moving the jar around, carefully blotted the excess ink off.  I then used my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write marker to color in the backend of each firefly in the jar.  The jar was then adhered down using the included glue-dots, with the lid leaning against the jar, and the firefly CS die-cuts were then randomly placed flying up and out of the jar.

The sentiment is from the Silhouette Scenes stamp set, stamped in Blackberry Bliss on one of the included embossed tags, and popped up with dimensionals.  Some of the 3D star stickers finished this off.

Card #7

I have so many good memories of hanging out with friends at the county fair growing up!  The Ferris-wheel die-cuts in this PP kit brought these memories back and I chose to use the sentiment from Silhouette Scenes to emphasize this fact!  It was stamped with the included Blackberry Bliss ink on one of the included embossed tags.  Then random little “bursts” (I don’t know what else to call it…) were stamped about.

So there you have it!  Multiple alternates from the July Paper Pumpkin Kit, Summer Nights!

I don’t know about you, but I so look forward to getting my little orange box every month!  I think the kits just keep getting better and better!  I’ve subscribed for many years now, and occasionally I’ll get a kit that just doesn’t really inspire me, but I must say…it’s been a long time since that’s happened!

If you don’t already subscribe to Paper Pumpkin, I’d encourage you to check it out!  Every month you get a box full of everything you need to make really cute cards right out of the box…ink, paper, adhesives, an exclusive stamp set, instructions, and even the envelopes for passing them on!   You can subscribe for 1 month to try it out, or longer as you desire!  If you do a pre-paid subscription, the cost breakdown per month is a little less, or if you prefer to simply go month-to-month, it’s $22/month, and you can cancel anytime (though you won’t want to!)  I’ll include the links at the bottom of this post if you’d like to subscribe, or simply click here!

If you want in on the August Paper Pumpkin, you’ll need to subscribe by August 10!  Watch this video for a little sneak peek of the August kit “For the World’s Greatest”!

Well, that’s it for today my stampin’ friends!  I hope you’re all staying cool and hydrated out there on these HOT days!  Better yet, do what I’m doing and hide out in your craft room!!!  Just keep that iced-down drink away from your paper!

Until next time,

Janet
