A Shaker Card The Bright Way Using Peace & Joy Bundle

Hello Friends!

I’m back today with a shaker card that I made using the Stampin’ Up Peace & Joy Bundle from the August-December 2020 Mini Catalog, from which you can start ordering TOMORROW! (August 4)

It’s been a little difficult for me to wrap my head around making Christmas cards, as it’s been so dang HOT outside!  We finally finished putting all of our hay in the barn a couple days ago and I have not been loving the heat!  I don’t like haying season to begin with; add 100-degree temperatures to it and words pop into my brain that shouldn’t be thought!

However, I’ve had a couple days to cool off and let the sore muscles recover; now it’s time to get back to my craft room!

Hopefully you’ve all had a chance to look through the new holiday catalog.  There’s so much to love between those two covers!  If you don’t have a catalog, please let me know and I’d be happy to send you one!

For those of you who know me well, you had to know that the Peace & Joy Bundle would be at the top of my shopping list!  I love my last name (Thank you, Dean!) and at Christmas-time, there’s a lot of “Merry & Bright” decorations in our home.  So, it should come as no surprise that I chose to feature the “Bright” stamp and die from that bundle.   I also purchased the “Sequins For Everything” in my holiday catalog pre-order with shaker cards in mind.  I don’t know what it is about shaker cards, but I think they bring out the kid in all of us!  What better time to send them out then at Christmas!

I’m so happy that Stampin’ Up elected to carry over the Stitched Stars Dies, which are available in the ’20-’21 Annual Catalog (pg 183).  The stars include pieces which are basic to very ornate, so you can dress them up or down to fit the look you’re after; the choice is yours!   Check them out if you’re not familiar!  The star shape can be used for so many occasions, making these dies nearly as versatile as ovals, rectangles, squares, and circles!

I also chose to use a 5 1/4″ square card base, just to “shake things up” a bit!  (5 1/2″ square envelopes can be bought on Amazon.)

So, let’s get INKY!

Colors and Measurements:

Card Front:

  • Whisper White card base:  10 1/2″ x 5 1/4″; score at 5 1/4″ and fold in half.
  • Heartwarming Hugs DSP Mat 1(red):  5 1/8″ x 5 1/8″
  • Heartwarming Hugs DSP Mat 2 (green): 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″
  • Heartwarming Hugs DSP Image Panel (white):  4″ x 4″
  • Acrylic Window Panel:  3 5/8″ x 3 5/8″
  • Whisper White scraps for “Merry” “And” “Bright”
  • Real Red CS:  Scraps for star corner embellishments
  • Brass Foil Sheet:  Scraps for stars

Card Inside:

  • Heartwarming Hugs DSP Mat 1(red) 5″ x 5″
  • Whisper White CS:  4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″

Accessories needed:

  • Foam Adhesive Strips:  You will need to cut 2 at 3 5/8″ and 2 at 3 1/2″
  • Sequins:  Approximately 1 Tablespoon

Putting It Together:

  • Stamp “Merry”, “And” “Bright” all in Real Red ink.
  • Crop out the “Bright” with the associated die from “Joy Dies” (part of the bundle).
  • Using scissors, fussy cut “Merry”, “And”.
  • Using the largest star die from “Stitched Stars Dies”, crop out the star from the center of the 4″ x 4″ white (polka-dot) DSP.
  • Crop out 5 of the “corner embellishments” using the die from “Stitched Stars Dies” in Real Red CS.
  • Crop out 4 small stars and 3 larger ornate stars from the Brass Foil Sheet.
  • Turn the White DSP (with the star cut from the middle) over and adhere the window panel to the backside of the DSP, covering all of the star to create your “window”.
  • Turn that piece back to right-side-up and adhere your Real Red die-cut embellishment pieces to each “valley” of your center star window.
  • Adhere your sentiment pieces with “Bright” at an angle over the center of the star window.
  • Adhere the brass foil stars scattered as you like over the white DSP image panel, saving two of the larger stars for inside embellishment.
  • Set the white image panel DSP piece aside to allow all adhesive to dry completely.
  • Adhere the (red) DSP Mat 1 to the front card base.
  • Adhere the (green) DSP Mat 2 centered on top of Mat 1.
  • Now turning our attention back to the image panel, again turn it over (face-side down) and apply the foam adhesive strips about 1/8″ from the outside edges of the square, butting them up against each other at the corners.  This is crucial so that the sequins can’t leak out!
  • Place your sequins in a mound in the center of the card front.  After peeling the paper backing off the adhesive strips, carefully lay your image/window panel over the top, centering it on the card and pressing down the foam adhesive strips.
  • Ta-Da!  the outside of the card is DONE!
  • On the inside of the card, I used my Stamparatus and laid out my words where I wanted them on the cardstock.
  •   I wanted to make the smaller words green, and the large words red.  Once I had them laid out the way I wanted them, I simply closed the “lid” to pick all the stamps up and then removed the larger words.
  • I inked the smaller words in Mossy Meadow, closed the “lid” to stamp them, and then removed the small words from the Stamparatus.
  • I then laid the large words back in place on my cardstock, closed the “lid” to pick up the stamps, inked them in Real Red and closed again for perfect placement!  I’m so glad that I used the Stamparatus to do this, as on the larger words, I had light spots and had to re-ink and close the “lid” again to get a better impression!  Saved by the Stamparatus (again!)
  • I added a couple of extra brass foil stars that I’d cut out using the Stitched Stars Dies and DONE!
