Ready For A Tropical Oasis

Hello Friends,

I don’t know about all of you, but I’m ready to get on with life.  We were getting ready to book a cruise to the Western Caribbean when all the Covid-19 stuff broke out and so held off on booking that trip.  Right now, I’m longing for the tropics.  Beautiful beaches and turquoise water, palm trees… toes in the sand, some scuba diving, and getting my tan on!  Heavy sigh… there’s always next year, right?!

With the tropics in mind, I thought this would make a good card for some of our “essential workers” after society starts opening up and they get to start thinking about a vacation!

I love the big pineapple die from “In The Tropics Dies”, part of the Tropical Oasis suite from the January – June 2020 Mini Catalog.  This is a bright, colorful and fun suite, by the way.  The papers are very vibrant and just speak “sun and sand”!  All of the coordinating “accessories” are so fun also.  Unfortunately, some of them will retire on June 2 – including the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder; Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper (DSP); Tropical Oasis Trinkets; Braided Burlap Trim.  All of these I used on today’s card.  The Timeless Tropical stamps and In The Tropics Dies will continue in the catalog, but bundling for the 10% discount will no longer be available.  So, again, if you want any of it, now’s the time to get it before it’s GONE!

Today’s card is fun and bright, it just screams VACATION!  It contains lots of die cuts and paper piecing, which I like.  I like the dimension and layers that die cuts give.

So, let’s get INKY!

Colors and Measurements:

This is a large card at 5″ x 7″.

Card base:  Early Espresso CS cut at 10″ x 7″; score and fold at 5″.

Mat 1:  Created with one piece of DSP (which is double-sided) cut at 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.  I found it easiest to score the paper corner-to-corner diagonally both ways and then cut.  That way you have lines to follow after you  make the first cut.

The top and bottom triangles, I used the 3-flower die from the In The Tropics dies right down the center to allow the Early Espresso card base to peek through.  Save the die-cut flowers for             later use.

Adhere the four triangular pieces down to the card base, leaving a gap between triangles.

Mat 2:  Early Espresso cut at 4″ x 3 1/4″ and embossed with Coastal Weave 3D embossing folder

Pineapple was cut from So Saffron CS, the top from Old Olive.

I used the Light Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends to highlight the embossed areas of the pineapple, and Light Mossy Meadow to highlight the pineapple top.  Gently lift the cut “^” areas to give the pineapple top some dimension.

Adhere the pineapple to the embossed Mat 2.

Adhere a piece of Braided Burlap Trim to the left side of the mat and wrap some linen thread around it a few times, and then tie the ukulele metal trinket with the thread.  I also used a glue dot under the ukulele to better secure it.

The flowers were stamped with Calypso Coral ink on Grapefruit Grove CS and then cut with dies from In The Tropics.  The leaves were stamped in Old Olive ink on Pear Pizzazz CS and cut with dies from In The Tropics also.  I used the small “star” cutout from the small flowers cut out of the DSP earlier for the flower centers.

“Aloha” was cut from Calypso Coral CS.

Lay all the pieces out to your pleasing and then adhere them down, using some of the small flower DSP die-cuts scattered lightly for balance.

Card Inside:

DSP cut at 4 3/4″ x 5 1/4″ for matting.

Whisper White CS cut at 4 1/4″ x 3 5/8″ for sentiment panel.

Sentiment, “Rest & Relax – you deserve it” is from Timeless Tropical stamp set as well.

Scatter a few of the DSP flowers along the bottom for a casual, tropical vacation vibe!

Until next time,

Janet
