Ornate Garden – Welcome Spring

Well, did you do it? Did you make a list of people you know who could use a little extra encouragement? Or, maybe just friends you haven’t been in touch with for a while. You know, those that you think about often but just never act on your thoughts of, “We should get together”, or, “I wonder how they’re doing”…

While we’re all cooped up waiting for the Corona virus to exit, (hopefully as fast as it popped up…), while we can’t all get together in person, a note in the mail, or a phone call to just reconnect would be AWESOME!!!

Again, I encourage you…. just do it! Reach out and make a friend’s day.

On another note… is anyone else getting anxious for some bright blue skies and sunshine??? We’ve been getting a little bit of it here in Oregon, interspersed with rain showers of course, but that’s good too. As they say, “April showers bring May flowers”! It’s not April yet, but we’re getting very close!

Our Daffodils are up and blooming, some almost all done already. If only they lasted longer…. I love Daffodils, the sight of them means Spring is on it’s way!!! (And, the deer leave them alone which is another bonus!)

Before we get on to today’s card, I just have to share with you the view from my craft room window. We have 5 of these gals (Blacktail deer) who hang around by the house daily. I am sooo beyond blessed to live here in our own little slice of heaven!!!

So, with all that said…. on to today’s project!

I told you about Stampin’ Up’s new suite that will soon be available to customers (only 2 more days… April 1!!!) Ornate Garden – it’s sooo pretty!!! So many options with the stamps and dies… add some Stampin’ Blenders and oh my… the stamped images come to life!!!

ORNATE GARDEN GATEFOLD CARD

Card Base:

So Saffron – cut at 11″ x 4 1/4″ and then scored at 2 3/4″ and 8 1/4″ – fold and use a bone folder to make nice, crisp creases.

Card Front:

Front side-by-side mats:  Poppy Parade cut at 4 1/8″ x 2 5/8″ (cut 2)

Ornate Garden DSP cut at 4″ x 2 1/2″ (cut 2) – adhere to Poppy Parade mats above

Now adhere those two stacks to the front panels of your So Saffron card base.

Main panel:  Poppy Parade mat cut at 4 5/8″ x 3″

Whisper White cut at 4 1/2″ x 2 7/8″

As we’re going to emboss our image, use an Embossing Buddy across your cardstock to prevent extra embossing powder from sticking to places you don’t want it.  Now, stamp the largest image from the Ornate Style stamp set using VersaMark ink and emboss with gold embossing powder.

Using Stampin’ Blends, color the image.  I used the combos (light & dark) of Poppy Parade, Petal Pink, So Saffron, Old Olive, and then I used the brush tip of the Light Smoky Slate to give a wide outline around the image and fill in the white space, essentially creating a mat without all the fussy cutting!  I used a Flirty Flamingo marker for the center of the smaller, Petal Pink, flowers, and a Soft Suede marker for the center of the daisies.

Next we’re going to add a little piece of the Old Olive ribbon that comes in the Ornate Garden Suite to the upper left corner of our colored panel.  I find that using the little glue dots that come in the Paper Pumpkin kits each month work fantastic for adhering ribbon.  I love that Stampin’ Up always includes a much larger sheet of glue dots in our Paper Pumpkin each month than is needed for the kit!  As illustrated in the photo below, I use a glue dot in the center of my ribbon to stick it where I want it on the front, then flipping it over, use one on each end to stick it to the back… works perfect everytime.   Also, as noted in the photos, I’ve found that it works best to simply peel the paper off the top of the glue dot while leaving it stuck to the acetate (plastic backing) and lay the glue dot on the ribbon, peeling the plastic sheet off and leaving the glue dot in place.  Trying to peel the entire dot off and get it set where I want it and then peeling the paper off just doesn’t work well for me. The glue dot gets stuck to my fingers and then I end up with a little glue ball, and not always stuck where I want it.  Maybe it’s just me, but I find the first method much more precise and clean!

Adhere the image panel to the corresponding Poppy Parade mat.  Using another piece of the Old Olive ribbon, tie a small bow and adhere on top of the corner ribbon.

Now, apply adhesive to the back of the left side of that panel only and adhere to the left “gate” fold, however, making sure that the image is centered on the card.

And finally, the inside of the card:

You’ll need to cut a mat of Poppy Parade at 5 1/4″ x 4″ and layer on top of it, a Whisper White panel cut at 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″.  As always, I like to pretty-up the inside, so I cut two strips of the DSP at

3 7/8″ x 3/8″ and applied to the outer edges of the white inside.

And, just like that, it’s ready for your choice of sentiments!!

Thank you again for spending a little time with me today, I appreciate it more than you can imagine.

I hope you’re staying safe and healthy out there… send someone a beautiful card today and let them know you’re thinking of them!  I hope you get inky today!!!

Until tomorrow….

Janet
