Assembling The Prized Peony 3D Flower

Hello Friends,

Today I broke out my Prized Peony stamp set and associated Peony Dies.  When I first opened the package of dies upon receiving them, I was a little intimidated by how many dies there are in that package (17 to be exact) and how to go about assembling the 3D Peony.  We’ve been so very busy and so it was sidelined until today.

After a little online research at Stampin’ Up, I was surprised to learn how very EASY it is to put this flower together!  And the results…. SPECTACULAR!!!

We have peonies in our flower beds (the deer do NOT eat these… YAY!!) and so I decided to copy the colors of ours.  Unfortunately, they’re done blooming this season and I didn’t get a picture of them.  They do put on a show!

I will do my best to walk you through the assembly process…. it really is SO VERY EASY!!!

Just a reminder… We’re in the midst of Stampin’ Up! LET’S GET INKY!

Colors and Measurements:

  • Basic Gray:  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ and folded in half for card base.
  • Magenta Madness:  10″ x 5″ for petal dies (will be cutting 2 of each petal die)
  • Whisper White:  5″ x 5″ for petal dies (will be cutting 1 of each petal die); 5 1/2″ x 1/2″ for card inside edge; 4 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ for inside panel die-cut; scraps for sentiment, jar, and inside peony.
  • Shaded Spruce:  Scrap for cutting 3 leaves.
  • Pear Pizzazz:  Scrap for cutting 3 leaf highlights.
  • So Saffron:  Scrap for cutting 3 stamens.
  • In Good Taste DSP:  5 1/4″ x 3 5/8″ – cut in half using one side for the top half of card front and other side for bottom half of card front.

LET’S MAKE IT!!

  1.  Lay scalloped edging die from Peony Dies along the right-hand edge of the card front and run through Big Shot to create scalloped edge from which the white peeks under.
  2. Cut 2 of each petal as shown below in Magenta Madness, and 1 of each petal in Whisper White.
  3. Cut 3 stamen pieces from So Saffron scrap.
  4. Use Rich Razzleberry ink and a sponge to ink up the edges of each Magenta Madness Petal, and So Saffron ink to ink the edges of white petals.
  5.  Assembling the 3D Peony:  Start with the smallest petal in each group of petals (1 of each petal per flower group) and insert through the “slot” on the next larger petal.  You’ll notice that the bottom of ALL the petals have an area that match up.  Match each of them up at the bottom and use just a small amount of glue or a glue dot at the bottom to hold them together.
  6. Now move to the next larger petal and insert the smaller petals through the slot in that one and attach with a small amount of glue at the bottom.
  7. Insert those three stacked petals through the slot in the largest petal and again adhere with a small amount of glue or glue dot.
  8. Front view   Back view
  9. Add a small amount of glue to the end of the So Saffron stamen and insert into the middle of your peony.

Is that easy or WHAT???  A gorgeous 3D peony just like that!!!  Repeat that process to make the 3 flowers.

9.  Now, cut the base leaves from Shaded Spruce and the highlights from Pear Pizzazz and assemble those also.

10.  Stamp the jar image from “Jar of Flowers” in Memento Black ink on a scrap of white paper.

11.  Then, using the smaller “half jar” stamp turned over so flat (back) side is out, ink up with Pool Party ink and stamp the “water” in the jar.

12.  Stamp the stems from “Jar of Flowers” in Garden Green ink and fill in with Shaded Spruce marker.

13. Punch the jar out using the Jar Punch, or trim out with scissors if you don’t have the punch.

14.  “Hello Beautiful” sentiment is from the “Butterfly Gala” stamp set, and then cropped out with a die from “Stitched So Sweetly Dies”.

Putting it all together:

Adhere the DSP to the front of the card.  As noted above, this is double-sided DSP and I used the tile side for the top and the wood side on the bottom of the card front.

Adhere the Square Vellum Doily at an angle at the bottom of the card using a “dot runner” and silicone mat.  ** Using a dot runner across intricate pieces with a silicone mat underneath allows the glue to stick only to the paper/vellum.  The rest of the glue wipes off the silicone mat very easily.  Don’t try this with a glue tape runner, however.  The solid line of glue will simply “web up” between the cuts.

Adhere the jar, peonies, and leaves in an arrangement to your liking.

Add the sentiment tag at the bottom, popping it up with some dimensionals.

On the inside, I used a 5 1/2″ x 1/2″ strip of Whisper White cardstock run through with the scalloped edge die from Peony Dies to match the outside edge and give the white underlayment to the cut front edge.

I opted to use a scalloped rectangle die from “Stitched So Sweetly Dies” for my sentiment panel, and stamped the sentiment which is again from “Butterfly Gala” stamp set.

I used the small peony stamp from Prized Peonies stamp set, colored with Magenta Madness Stampin’ Blends combo, and Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blends for the leaves.

This was then cut with the corresponding die and placed in the upper left corner to dress up the inside a bit.

I absolutely love these peonies!  They’re so fun and fancy! …… And, So EASY!!!!

I hope you give these Peony Dies a try… I can’t wait to make MORE!!!

Until next time,

Janet
