Hello Friends,
Today I chose to pull out a stamp/die set that’s been around for a while, but is one of those that just never goes out of style – “Flourishing Phrases” and “Flourish Thinlets”. I also chose to use a technique that I haven’t done in a while… Black Magic! This effect is created by stamping a white image on black paper and then coloring with colored pencils. I love the effect it gives, and then finishing it off with white highlighting. So pretty!
So let’s get INKY!
Colors and Measurements:
Garden Green – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to make card base.
Crushed Curry – 5 1/4″ x 4″ – run through Big Shot with Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder
Basic Black – 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ for image panel; scraps used for leaves w/Flourish Thinlets
2018 – 2020 In-Color DSP in Lovely Lipstick – (retiring June 1 – get it while you can!) 5 1/4″ x 1/2″
Whisper White – 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ – border cut with Flourish Thinlets
Whisper White – 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ – sentiment tag cut with 1″ circle punch
Directions:
- Stamp flower and leaves from Flourishing Phrases in Whisper White craft ink on Basic Black panel.
- Allow to air dry or use heat tool.
- Using colored pencils, color images. I used Stampin’ Up Watercolor Pencils in Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Cherry Cobbler, Flirty Flamingo, Balmy Blue, Garden Green and Granny Apple Green.
- Add white highlights and dots using Stampin’ Chalk marker.
- Put it together:
- Layer the embossed Crushed Curry panel on top of the Garden Green cardbase.
- Adhere Lovely Lipstick DSP strips to top and bottom of Crushed Curry panel.
- Adhere the white die-cut border to edges of black image panel.
- Adhere the black die-cut leaves to right side of Crushed Curry panel.
- Adhere black sentiment panel to left side of card front.
- Stamp “Hello” sentiment from Flourishing Phrases in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Whisper White CS and punch out with 1″ circle punch.
- Using Stampin’ Dimensional, adhere sentiment to card front.
I love how the vibrant colors of the background (Crushed Curry and Lovely Lipstick) just draw out the color of the “Black Magic” image panel!
I hope you’re all doing well out there, staying sane while we’re all staying home! I hope you’re getting some crafting time in!
Until next time,
Janet

Interesting technique – thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome Stormy! It’s a technique I’d forgotten about until I was going through some old cards I’d made years ago. An “oldie but goodie” 🙂
