This card was made for a card challenge over at Fusion using the sketch and picture as below.
The “theme” of this challenge by Fusion was inspired by ANZAC Day, which to Australians and New Zealanders is similar to our Memorial Day in the United States; a day set aside to remember and honor military personnel who died in service. It seems fitting at this time, as we are feeling the loss of many of our freedoms due to COVID-19, that we too always remember… freedom is not free. If it weren’t for our military personnel, past and present, the country we live in would be a whole lot different. So, even though our Memorial Day isn’t for another month-plus, let us ALWAYS REMEMBER that this great country and the freedoms that we take for granted every day come at a heavy price, and should we become too complacent, could be taken from us once again.
I used Stampin’ Up’s Painted Poppies stamp set with the sentiment coming from Peaceful Moments, along with the dies also associated with these stamp sets, Poppy Moments and Painted Labels. This suite of products has to be my all time favorite set, and apparently many other stampers as well, as they have been backordered so far that Stampin’ Up made these products unorderable for the longest time.
HOWEVER… I JUST LOOKED AND THE PEACEFUL POPPIES SUITE BUNDLE IS BACK!!!!!
It appears that it will begin shipping again on April 20!!!!!! SOOOO… if you’re interested in this suite, NOW IS THE TIME TO ORDER, as it may run out again fast!!!!
You have no idea how excited I am to see this is back and orderable….I can’t begin to tell you how much I love, love, love this set. It’s probably… no definitely… my most used set EVER. The stamps are beautiful and so versatile. The dies are absolutely beautiful and allow for sooo much creativity whether you just want to cut out your stamped images, or paper-piece your poppies, leaves, labels…. SO MANY OPTIONS!!! And, the paper…. Oh My Goodness!!!! Can I say BEAUTIFUL. Yes, I’ve already admitted in my “about me” page that I LOVE pretty paper… but these papers are EXQUISITE! The designer of this set deserves so many kudos!!! Let’s not forget the embellishments… the Peaceful Poppies Sequins which match the colors of the papers so perfectly (just one of the things I love about Stampin’ Up products… the colors all match from paper, to ink, to ribbon, to embellishments!) And the Whisper White 1/4″ Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon…. one of the most versatile elements in the catalog. If you need ribbon of ANY color, just sponge on a little ink and you’ve got it… matching ribbon for any project, any color!!!
Again, just a reminder to order this suite FAST, as it has been a super hot item and may not last long AGAIN!!!!
On to today’s card:
Directions:
Colors and Measurements:
- Poppy Parade CS cut at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ and folded in half
- Whisper White CS cut at 5 1/4″ x 4″
- Basic Black 4″ x 3″ for large poppy border die-cut, poppy center, and 6″ x 1″ for lacy border
- Peaceful Poppies DSP (variegated Poppy Parade) cut at 3 x 3 for large poppy die-cut
Inks used:
- Pineapple Punch (reminder – this color (along with other 2018 – 2020 In-Colors) is retiring as of June 1 – order now if you need it!)
- Cajun Craze
- Pumpkin Pie
- Balmy Blue
- Blueberry Bushel (another 2018 – 2020 In-Color retiring June 1 — order now!)
- Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
Let’s Make It:
- Starting with the white panel, use the 1″ circle punch and a Post-It note to create a mask for the sun.
- Sponge Pineapple Punch ink around the circle, moving outward and getting lighter as you go.
- Next sponge Cajun Craze ink just around the rim of your mask.
- Using Pumpkin Pie ink, sponge around mask and draw out just a little bit into the Pineapple Punch ink.
- Now use a Post-It note to create your sunrays, using Pumpkin Pie ink.
- Now sponge Balmy Blue ink over panel, starting at the top and blending ever-so-slightly into the Pineapple Punch ink, and taking it down almost to the bottom of the panel.
- Using Blueberry Bushel, sponge across the top and blend down into the Balmy Blue.
- Stamp the poppies across the bottom of the panel using Tuxedo Black ink.
- Color the poppies using Stampin’ Blends.
- I started with Dark Poppy Parade in the centers of the flowers, the small flowers and buds.
- Then used the Light Poppy Parade to fill in the rest of the flowers. This gives some depth to the flowers, having the darker centers.
- Next I used the Dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blends to carefully line the stems.
- I used a sponge and black ink around the edges of the entire panel to create a vignette effect.
- Run the DSP through the Big Shot with the “full flower” poppy die.
- Run the Basic Black paper through the Big Shot with the poppy outline die, poppy center, and the border die (x2)
- Assemble the large poppy, adhering layers together with a fine tip all-purpose glue.
- Adhere the black lacy border to the back of the image panel.
- Stamp the sentiment from Peaceful Moments onto Whisper White and punch out using the Classic Label Punch.
- Adhere the sentiment and large poppy.
- Adhere the entire panel onto the card base, all the way to the top so that the black “lace” has room over the Poppy Parade.
A bright and cheery card which can be used as a condolence card, and/or Memorial Day card.
Thank you for spending some time with me today.
