You’re Timeless, Just Like Tulips!
I needed to make a birthday card for my very special mother-in-law. She loves to garden and I learned quickly that if I knock on the door with no answer, she can usually be found outside working in her yard. She has a huge assortment of beautiful flowers planted in multiple beds throughout her yard with something blooming spring through fall. Given the fact that she loves flowers and has an April birthday, Tulips seemed the perfect fit! This is what I came up with.
Let’s get INKY!!
Card Recipe:
Let’s make it!
Card Front:
Colors and Measurements:
Card Base: Gorgeous Grape 5 ½” x 8 ½” – score at 4 ¼” and fold for 4 ¼ x 5 ½” card.
Mat 1: Pear Pizazz 5 ¼” x 3 ¼”
Mat 2: Brights 6”x6” DSP in Gorgeous Grape 5 1/8” x 3 1/8”
Image Panel: Whisper White 4 ¼” x 2 ¼”
Edging: Whisper White 2” x 6” – run through Big Shot with Delicate Lace Edgelit die
Sentiment tag label: Whisper White
Card Inside:
Mat 1: Pear Pizazz 5 ¼” x 4”
Sentiment panel: Whisper White5 1/8” x 3 7/8”
Directions:
- Adhere the Gorgeous Grape DSP paper to the Pear Pizazz Mat 1.
- Cut the lace edging with the Delicate Lace Edgelit.
- Lay the Pear Pizazz/DSP stack on top of the die-cut lace piece (you’ll have overhang) centering it so that when the ends are trimmed, you end up at the same place in the pattern on each end – keeps it nice and uniform in appearance. Mark lightly with a pencil where you need to trim, and line up your pencil mark with the cutting “ditch” of your trimmer and slice off; do this on both ends.
- Adhere the lace die-cut piece to the front right edge of the Gorgeous Grape card base.
- Now adhere the Pear Pizazz/DSP stack on top of that, centering it on the other 3 sides of the card front.
- Using scraps of Whisper White CS, stamp 3 images of the largest tulip from Timeless Tulips in Gorgeous Grape ink – not too close together, as you need room to punch them out.
- Line up the images in the punch (turn the punch over so you can see where you’re punching) and punch them out.
- Stamp the medium-sized tulip a couple times on scraps of paper and fussy cut them out – we’re going to use those as masks.
- Now stamp a couple of the medium-sized tulips where you want them on your Whisper White image panel.
- Place your masks in place, covering the tulips you just stamped.
- Using Pear Pizazz ink, stamp the stems for the tulips you just stamped.
- Figure out where you want your punched tulips and stamp the stems for them also.
- Add leaves. I chose to simply stamp the leaves in the background, but the Tulip Builder Punch will also punch out leaves for you if you’d like more 3D effect.
- ***You’ll notice in the finished card, I elected to use another large punched tulip rather than the tulip bud. I just placed it right over the top of the bud.
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals and place your punched-out tulips on your stems for more dimension.
- Cut a ¼” strip of Whisper White CS and using Gorgeous Grape ink, stamp the “happy birthday” stamp from Timeless Tulips. Trim your ends and apply with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- I didn’t have any Gorgeous Grape ribbon, so I used some Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding, sponged some Gorgeous Grape ink on it, and ta-da… Gorgeous Grape ribbon! And yep, you can do that with any ink color you want to coordinate with other projects. *The ink dries perfectly, no mess!
- Tie a small bow with your ink-dyed ribbon and apply to card front.
- I like a little extra bling, so I used the small white gems in “From My Heart Faceted Gems” to give the card front a little extra sparkle!
And just like that…. Mom’s birthday card is ready for delivery! 😊
I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy out there! And, while we’re all “Staying Home and Saving Lives”, I hope you take time to get a little inky today! Thank you for spending a small part of your day with me!
Until next time,
Janet
