Mirror Image – Double your stamp use!

Hello Friends,

Today I pulled out one of my favorite stamp sets again, “Let It Ride”.  I had been over at our rental house earlier today doing some maintenance in preparation for new tenants, and it took me back to the “early days” in my husband’s and my relationship.  My youngest daughter and I rented that house some 10 years ago after we had gotten a couple horses (we’d never had horses before).  Dean, then my landlord, and now my husband (yep, married my landlord), “rescued” me from my particularly ornery gelding more than once.  He always had the patience of a saint as I learned a little bit about horsemanship the hard way, and was always so kind to intervene when needed.   When thinking about today’s project, after a day of reminiscing, “Let It Ride” was the natural choice.

Using the “mirror image” technique allowed me to use one stamp but mirror the image to make it look like the horses are looking at each other (oh so lovingly if I do say so myself!)

Let’s get to it!

Colors & Measurements:

  • Soft Suede CS cut at  5 1/2 x 8 1/2″, score and fold at 4 1/4″ to make 5 1/2 x 4 1/4″ card base.
  • Whisper White 4 x 4″ use largest doily die from Doily Builder Dies.
  • Whisper White 4 x 5″
  • Whisper White 3 x 2″
  • Neutrals 6×6″ DSP in Mossy Meadow

Directions:

  • Run the front of the Soft Suede card base through the Big Shot in the Tin Tile embossing folder.
  • Gently sponge Soft Suede ink over the embossed impression to highlight the embossing and give it a slightly distressed look.
  • Cut the doily out of the Whisper White CS using the largest doily die from Doily Builder Dies.
  •  Next we’re going to make the mirror image of the horse.
  • Using a silicone mat and Memento Black ink, stamp the horse image on the silicone mat.
  • Carefully lay the white cardstock on top of the image and gently rub the cardstock to transfer the ink.
  • Carefully lift up the cardstock and wa-la… your mirrored image.
  • Now stamp the image next to the mirrored image so it appears the horses are looking at each other.
  • Using the second largest die from “Stitched Nested Labels”, center the horses in the die and run through Big Shot.
  • Use the largest die from “Stitched Nested Labels” to cut out the Mossy Meadow DSP.
  • Stamp the heart from “Meant To Be” stamp set in Cherry Cobbler ink.
  • Stamp the small flower border stamp from “Meant To Be” in Memento Black ink and color with Stampin’ Blends.  I used Cherry Cobbler (dark and light); Light Mossy Meadow, and Dark Daffodil Delight.
  • Color the horses – I used Dark Crumb Cake for the horse on the left and Light Crumb Cake for the horse on the right. I outlined both with Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend to add a little depth.
  • Stamp the sentiment on the second smallest “Stitched Nested Labels” vertically.
  • Layer the image panel on top of the DSP and adhere.  Align the sentiment tag on the lower right corner of the image panel and adhere.
  • Attach the doily to the upper left corner, and then adhere the image panel/sentiment over the top of the doily.

I hope you find other stamps to play with this mirroring technique…give it a try!

Until next time,

Janet
